Writing styles let you define how BidScript should generate drafts on your behalf: structure, tone, terminology, voice and formatting rules. Instead of a default-format first draft, you get content that matches how you and your organisation already write.
They support structured frameworks, corporate tone, brand language preferences and your own naming conventions.
Styles exist at two scopes — Personal and Team. Creating and testing works identically for both; only the toggle differs. This article covers both. For governance and rollout across a team, see Team writing styles.
Create a writing style
Go to Settings → Writing Styles.
Make sure Structure is toggled on.
Toggle Personal or Team, depending on which scope you are creating for.
Click + New Structure.
Enter a name for the style.
Enter the template — the structure and rules BidScript should follow.
Click Save in the bottom-right.
Test a writing style
The test environment is where a writing style is actually developed. Expect to iterate — the first template rarely produces what you had in mind.
Click the writing style you want to test.
Click Test above the template section, or use the test icon on the Writing Structure main page.
Select a Library.
Optionally select a Project.
Provide a question, using one of the three routes below.
Click Test.
The generated answer streams into the preview section, so you can see the effect of the template immediately.
With a project selected | Click Choose from Project to use a real question from that project. |
Without a project | Enter a question manually. |
Without a project | Click Generate Question to have BidScript produce one. |
Testing against a real question from a live project is the more useful check — a style that reads well against an invented question can still fall apart on a 400-word method statement.
Set a default
Writing styles are applied automatically at draft generation, but only if one is set as your default.
Go to Settings → Writing Styles.
Toggle Personal or Team as appropriate.
On the style you want, click Set as my default at the top of the card.
Confirm it is working
Open a project that has extracted questions.
Select a question, or several.
Click Generate.
The configuration window opens with your default writing style already selected.
Change the style at generation time
You are not locked to the default. Any generation can use a different style, or none.
Go to the questions area of your project.
Select a question, or several.
Click Generate.
In the configuration window, open the writing style dropdown.
Select a different style, or deselect writing structures entirely.
Continue with draft generation.
Which style gets used
Where more than one default exists, BidScript applies them in this order:
Your personal default writing structure.
Your team default writing structure.
If neither is set, no style is applied — you can select one at generation, or leave it empty.
A personal default always overrides the team's. Worth knowing if you have set a team standard and someone's drafts are not following it: they likely have a personal default of their own.
